Our Reading Room is located within the Shakespeare Centre on Henley Street in Stratford-upon-Avon and is open free of charge Wednesday-Saturday. Whether you are studying Shakespeare, interested in performance history, researching your family history or investigating the history of Stratford-upon-Avon, our team can help you with your research enquiry. Every year we welcome readers and groups from all over the world who access books, maps, archival documents, newspapers, performance photographs, recordings of Shakespeare productions and much more.

Advanced booking is recommended to help you get the most from your visit but it is not essential.  Please call us on 01789 204 016 or email scla@shakespeare.org.uk to discuss your requirements.

Our normal opening hours are:

Wednesday to Friday: 10.00am – 4.30pm

Saturday: 9.30am – 12.30pm

Sunday to Tuesday: Closed 

We have a number of finding aids and databases available to help you with your research. The databases can be found here and our paper finding aids are available in the Reading Room.

Easter 2017 Opening Times

We will be closed on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th April and will re-open as normal from Wednesday 19th April 2017.

Shakespeare's Birthday Weekend

We will be closed to celebrate Shakespeare's birthday on Saturday 22nd April.

Christmas 2017 and New Year Opening Times

We will be offering special opening during week commencing 18th December and will open from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd; We will then close for Christmas and New Year (Saturday 23rd December - Tuesday 2nd January) and will re-open as normal from Wednesday 3rd January 2018.
