Be Inspired: Shakespeare and Me

Ian Doescher: Author

Shakespeare's relevence throughout history continues into the present day with inspiration from his works being found in both contemporary writing and movie making.

Ian Doescher has drawn from both of these mediums to create a Shakespearian retelling of the classic sci-fi film series 'Star Wars'.

'When I first encountered Shakespeare, I fell in love with his language, his characters, and his stories. I learned eventually that, in his era, his plays weren’t inaccessible artworks but entertainment for the masses. If he were alive today, he would likely be writing our popular entertainment. Borrowing his style and applying it to "Star Wars" (and other films) feels like a natural extension of his plays and his purpose.'
