Shakespeare Connected - Ageless Cleopatra

Heads or Tails?

Cleopatra still has a presence in everyday Egypt. The 50 Piaster coin – or “half a Pound” – replaced the banknote in 2005. Initially copper, the coin was reintroduced two years later, made of steel with copper plating. The one displayed here is a special gold-plated edition. There are ten different coins and notes in Egypt but Cleopatra is the only female figure on the country’s currency.
