Description

Indenture between Ralph [Maxfield] Abbot of the monastery of the Blessed Mary of Kenelworth and the convent of the same place and Richard Bugy, master of the Gild of the Holy Cross of Stratford upon Avon, with the assent of Thomas Clopton, John a Bergis [Brugge] gent., Richard Bentele, William Jeffis, John a Bedull', Richard Stowe, William Pelips, William Bogy, aldermen, John Edwardes and Wilfrid Smyth, proctors of the same Gild, witnessing that whereas master Hugh Chesenale, formerly rector of the church of the Invention of the Holy Cross of Clyfford upon Stowre, delivered into the hands of the said Abbot £6.13.4d, to provide 20 quarters of coal to be distributed among the poor in the Almshouse of Stratford at Christmas each year, and that after his death the said Abbot and the Master, proctors and aldermen of the said Gild agreed that the latter should distribute the coal to the almsfolk and other poor in Stratford `ad califaciendum illorum tempore yemale', saying "Ye shall pray specially for the soule of Maister Hugh Chesenale sumtyme parson of Clyfford vpon Stowre which ordeyned thys almes of colys yerely to be distributed among you poore people to warme you wt this cold wynter, and for the soules of hys fader and moder and for all cristen soules saying of your charite a Pater noster and an Ave" and the said Abbot delivered the sum of £6.13.4 into the hands of the said Richard Bogy, master of the Gild, under a penalty of 13s.4d. for every default of such distribution Dated at Kenelworth in the Chapter House, 10 February, 12 Henry VII Seal lost
