Counterpart indenture of marriage settlement between William Rowles of Welford, co. Gloucs., yeoman, of the one part and Thomas Peart of Millcott, co. Warwick, gentleman and Edward Cotterell of Saintbury, co. Gloucs., yeoman, whereby William Rowles, in consideration of a marriage shortly to be had between him and Elizabeth Cotterell, sister of Edward and of the sum of £50 paid as a marriage portion, granted and confirmed to the other parties the messuage and close in Welford having the messuage and backside of one Thomas Mace on the N. part and the messuage and backside of one Walter Roberts on the S. part, and halfe yard land and so much meadow ground as belonged to 3 1/2 quarters of arable land lying in the parish fields and precincts of Welford, all which premises were late in the occupation of Samuel Nevill and then of William Rowles, Thomas Peart and Edward Cotterell being then in actual possession by virtue of an indenture of bargain and sale dated the day before, to have and to hold to Thomas Peart and Edward Cotterell for the following uses, viz: in respect of one moiety, to the use and behoof of William Rowles for life then of Elizabeth Cotterell his intended wife for her jointure, then of their children or his heirs for ever and in respect of the other moiety, to the use and behoof of William Rowles for life, then of such child or children as he should direct by will or otherwise, then of Elizabeth for life and then of his heirs for ever.
