Description

Lease from Humphrey Ferrars of Tamworthe, esq. and Anne his wife, to Thomas Owghton of Bagginton, miller, for £16. 13s. 4d., of a mill called the Hethe milne in Stychall, with the holme, meadow and close, and fishing rights down-stream as far as the lordship of the said Humphrey extends, now in the occupation of Francis Symcox, dwelling in the Beare in Coventrye, and late demised to Joyce Tomer by a lease dated from Michaelmas 1 and 2 Philip and Mary [1555 but see no. 780], but reserving to the said Humphrey leave to fish in the said waters; with the further lease of a water-mill called Peege milne, alias Milne in the Hole in the county of Coventrye, with a meadow, close and part of a meadow being Lammas ground and a parcel of ground set with witches, now in the tenure of the said Francis Simcoxe; to hold the same of the said Humphrey from the date of the expiration of the said leases to Joyce Tomer and Humphrey Lynsey, both bearing date Michaelmas 1 and 2 Philip and Mary, for a further term of 21 years, rendering annually £4. 3s. 4d., i.e. 33s. 4d. for the Heath milne and 50 shillings for the Peege milne (2 terms); and the said Humphrey will find sufficient timber from the lordship of Stychall for the Heath milne, and the said Thomas may crop and lop all necessary wood for the hedging and fencing of the said premises, and for making fires; and the said Thomas may also take sufficient great timber for the repair of the Peege milne; and the said Thomas to otherwise repair and maintain the said premises at his own expense, and to pay 40 shillings as heriot when due, and 20 shillings to the queen when the said Humphrey is called upon to serve in her wars.
