Account of John Hannys, Master of the Guild of the Holy Cross, the Blessed Mary the Virgin, and S. John Baptist, from Monday next after the Feast of the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 29 Henry VI., to Monday next following the same Feast, 30 Henry VI The Account is rendered under the following headings Arrears [and legacies.] (20s bequest of Thomas Snelle, of Hodynhille, towards building the new chancel on to the Guild Chapel ("ad fabric' nove cancell annex capell Gild'"). Bequests from Richard Tommys and John Marshall, for the same purpose. Bequests also from John Calow, of Charlecotte, John Drewery, and Thomas Balsale.) Fines. Paid for "glasynge" the chancel window, £4; 1 hood, 4s 2d; and gloves, 4d. Paid to the servants of the glazier for a week, 2s 8d. Paid the masons [labouring] about the window of S. Martin, 3s 8d. Paid a carpenter for "le tymber werke" of the said chancel, £4, and 1 hood price 4s. Board ("meusa") of the carpenter's servants, 3s 4d; 500 nails, 20d; gloves given to the carpenter, 4d; for bread given at "le rerynge," 3d; costs when the lead was cut ("cinditis") (sic), 5d; mending "le wyztes," and for making a "hoke," 4d; cartload of wood fuel to burn about the lead, 11d; hire of a man to ride for "le masons" on two occasions, 12d. Paid for [the carriage of] 24 cartloads of stones from the quarry at Warwick to the Chapel, 24s; 1 cartload of stones from Rowynton, 14d, and for one from Drayton, 4d; lime and sand, 2s 11d; food and drink, 2s 7d; 1 cartload of slate, 2s 6d. Payments also for straw, 4d.) Cost of the light. (Wax, c., for the usual purposes.) Cravings of allowance.
