Assignment from John Smith of Preston-upon-Stour, co. Gloucs., yeoman, at the request of James Ward of Stratford-upon-Avon stationer and by the appointment of John Fetherston of Stratford-upon-Avon victualler, the only son and heir of the late William Fetherston of the same victualler, to Thomas Ward of Alderminster farmer, of a term of 2000 years in the premises described in DR221/7, in trust to attend the inheritance, reciting the following: A mortgage, dated 4 July 1797, from Pearshouse Drury of Evesham, co. Worcs., gentleman to William Heeks of Beckford, co. Gloucs., gentleman, of, amongst other things, a messuage in High Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, now one of three messuages but then two, for 2000 years at a peppercorn rent to secure £1200. An assignment, dated 30 and 31 January 1800, of the said mortgage from the said William Heeks to John Acton of Bengworth, co. Worcs., ironmonger, and his trustee, the mortgage having by then been reduced to £700. An assignment dated 30 and 31 July 1802 of the said mortgage, from the said John Acton and his trustee to William Halford and his trustee, the mortgage having been reduced to £250. A conveyance, dated 26 April 1806, of the said premises, from Pearshouse Drury to John Michael Silvester, (for £250 paid by the latter to William Halford) and an assignment of the said term of 2000 years in the said mortgage, from William Halford to John Smith, in trust to attend the inheritance. That the said James Ward had contracted to purchase the said premises in fee simple from the said John Fetherston [DR221/6 and DR221/7].
