Description

Copy of the will of Joseph Woolmer of Stratford-upon-Avon, gent., whereby he bequeathed to his cousin, Shirley Woolmer (son of the testator's late brother Benjamin Woolmer), the residue of a term of years in the messuage wherein he then dwelt and a messuage adjoining thereto held of the Corporation; also the residue of a term of years in another messuage with appurtenances held of the Duke of Dorset and he devised to the said Shirley Woolmer his messuage and farm at Haslour and his one yard land of arable meadow and pasture in the common fields of Welcomb and Bishopton in the parish of Old Stratford, also his messuages in Chapel Street then in the occupation of William Haywood, John Tasker, Widow Canning, John Court and Thomas Tims. Bequest of £100 to the Mayor, Aldermen and Burgesses of the Borough, the income of which to be used for apprenticing one poor boy of the Borough. Bequest to kinsman Joseph Woolmer (son of Sampson Woolmer theretofore of Castle Thorp, Lincs., gentleman, deceased) of £500 upon attaining 21 years of age; also to the mother of the said Joseph Woolmer; to Mabell Woolmer of Stratford-upon-Avon; to his cousins Catherine Makepeace of Old Stratford, widow, and Elizabeth Woolmer of Stratford-upon-Avon, spinster, to his kinswomen Mrs [Decima] Cockman and Grace Hatton and to Philip and Joseph Hatton, the two sons of the said Grace Hatton; to his kinsman Thomas Mortiboys of Stratford-upon-Avon and his wife and their son Joseph, to his kinswoman Susannah Woolmer of Bath, widow, and to her son William Woolmer; to his kinswoman Mary Ives of Gainsborough, co. Lincs., widow, and to her three daughters, Mary, Ann and Martha; to his kinsman Jonathan Hall of London, distiller; to his cousins Thomas Younge of London and Mary, wife of Philip Box of the same place; to Lucy, wife of ----- Garner of London; to his cousin Jane Hatton and Henry Hatton her son; to John Jones, son of his late cousin Elizabeth Jones of Chipping Campden, widow; to the wife of ---- Charwood of Willersey, daughter of his late cousin Jones; to his cousin Catherine Jones of Bristol and to her son Joseph; to his sister [in-law Frances]. Rose of Ilmington, widow [of William] and to his cousin John Green of Ilmington and his wife [Sarah née Rose] Bequest to 20 poor tradesmen of the Borough, to his two servants and to Mary Paris, then living with the testator's cousin, Mabell Woolmer; to his friends Sir Hugh Clopton, Mr. Thomas Rowney, Mr. Thomas Mason, Mr. Thomas Mortiboys, Mr. Bartlett Mason, Mr. William Davis and Mr. Richard Bartlett. Direction for the execution of a monument against the pillar in the Alderman's pews. Bequest of residue of his estate to the said Shirley Woolmer, whom he appointed his executor.
