Unexecuted feoffment from John Woodward of Avon Dasset alias Dasset Parva gent., Richard Woodward son and heir of the said John and Joan wife of the said Richard to Sir Edward Peyto of Chesterton knt. of the great tithes of Chesterton as described in the following recited deeds. On 24 April 29 Henry VIII [1537] Sir John Colmer, clerk, Subchantor and the Company of Vicars Choral of Leitchfield demised to John Peyto of Chesterton esq. the tithes of 40 yard lands, 39 yard meadows in the Great field of Chesterton and the tithe of 9 yard lands called the freeholders lands, which 9 yard lands consisted of 2 1/2 yard lands called Burburies, 2 1/2 yard lands called Verneys land, 1 yard land called Darlowes, 3/4 of a yard land called Camells land, 3/4 a yard land called Crykes land alias Cadeys land, 1/2 a yard land called Savedge land and 1 yard land called Grauntes land, also the tithe of three kyne grass or pasturage yearly in the same field called Tempkyns land alias Knettes and Greenes lands, reserving the privy tithes, four offering days, the tithe ham of meadow called Parsons ham and the advowson of a priest and curate to the church of Chesterton. To hold for 42 years. Before the end of this term on 26 February 5 Edward VI [1551/2] William Smyth, clerk, Subchantor and the Company of Vicars Choral of Litchfield, reciting that John Woodward the elder of Butlersmerston yeoman had bought the lease of the said tithes granted to the said John Peyto, enfeoffed the said John Woodward and Richard Woodward the younger of Butlersmerston yeoman of all the said tithes together with the tithe ham of meadow called Parsons ham, but reserving the privy tithes, the four offering days and the advowson of the church. To hold the same for ever for the annual rent of £6 4s. 8d. The said John Woodward then seised of the fee simple of the said tithes, on 13 October 1 Mary [1553] demised to John Peyto of Chesterton esq. the tithes of 40 yard lands and 39 3/4 yard meadows in the Great field of Chesterton. To hold for ever for the annual rent of £5. On 10 August 27 Elizabeth [1585] the said John Woodward demised to Anne Peyto, widow of Humphrey Peyto esq. deceased of Chesterton, the tithe of a messuage and 3/4 of a yard land in Chesterton, which messuage and land the said Anne had lately purchased from George Mathewe the elder and George Mathewe the younger. To hold for ever for the annual rent of 3s. 9d. On 28 October 27 Elizabeth [1585] the said John Woodward demised to Edmund Budd the tithe of one yard land, one moiety being the inheritance of Margaret Kington and Robert Hawkyns and the other moiety being the inheritance of John West, in the Great field of Chesterton, and also the tithe of one close of pasture in Chesterton adjoining Banbury way and abutting onto Tachbrooke field. To hold the same for the annual rent of 5a. On 28 October 1 Mary [1553] the said John Woodward demised to Randall Bradshawe yeoman the tithe of one tenement and 2 1/2 yard lands in the Great field of Chesterton. To hold for ever for the annual rent of 12s. 6d. On 1 October 3 Elizabeth [1561] the said John Woodward demised to John Darlowe of Kington the tithe of one tenement and yard land in the Great field of Chesterton. To hold for ever for the annual rent of 5s. On 1 April 24 Elizabeth [1582] the said John Woodward demised to Thomas Camell the tithe of two messuages and 3/4 of a yard land in Chesterton. To hold for the annual rent of 3s. 9d. The said John Woodward was also seised of the following rents in lieu of tithes on other lands in Chesterton, namely 12s. 6d. for 2 1/2 yard lands in the Great field in the tenure of Ellys Burbury, 2s. 6d. for the tithe of 2 yard lands of Savedge or Griffins land in the Great field, 10d. for the tithe of land in the tenure of Thomas Tompkyns, and the tithe ham of meadow or Parsons ham in the Great field, and thus the said John and Richard Woodward were seised of all the tithes of Chesterton except the privy tithes the four offering days and the advowson of the church, which tithes were inherited by the said John Woodward of Avon Dasset and Richard Woodward his son and heir. To hold to the said Sir Edward Peyto for ever, reserving the privy tithes, offering days and advowson, the said Sir Edward to pay the annual rent of £6. 4s. 8d.
