Essex, held 10 December 1597 before Edward Hunt and Robert Bentley, gentlemen, bailiffs, and before Edward Pynchon senior, gentleman, John Chalke, Robert Woode, Thomas Baker, William Newlonde, Richard Thurgood, Gregory Shettleworth, John Percyvall, Thomas Sharpe, Henry Sharpe, John Noke, John Hawkyn, John Carter, Henry Draper, Robert Crusshe, William Crusshe, Thomas Crusshe senior, Thomas Crusshe junior, Thomas Braynewood, Thomas Saye, Thomas Tabor, Abraham Goose and William Sharpe suitors of the said court, by James Bell demandant against William Bell tenant of a messuage, a toft, a dovecot, a garden, an orchard, six acres of meadow and six acres of pasture in Writtle. Vouchee: John Nycolson. Nicholas Dockley, bedellus manerij and minister curie. According to the custom of the manor, a fine of 6s.8d. was paid by William Bell for the enrolment of the recovery in the rolls of that court. Signed: 1. Seals are circular, small, of red wax, nos. 1 and 4 rather larger than the others.
