Description

Will of James Prescott the elder of Warwick, gent. Bequests to the poor of the parishes of St. Mary, Warwick (£10), St. Nicholas, Warwick (£5), Oxhill, Sherborne, Pillarton Pryory and Budbrooke (£1 each) and to the hamlets of Honiley and Bewsall (£1 each). Devise to testator's wife, Merriell, a messuage, barn and appurtenances in Warwick in the occupations of Edward Rainsford the elder, deceased, then of Job Rainsford, gent., also the messuage with appurtenances and one yardland and a half thereto belonging, also hereditaments in Sherbourne, Budbrook and Hampton Curlewe for her life with successive remainders in tail to testator's sons, James and Richard, and to James Rainsford testator's grandchild with remainder to right heirs of testator. Devise to testator's wife of a messuage in Jury Street, Warwick, wherein testator dwelt, with a barn in Backhills near to the almshouses and a great barn in Warwick, also a cottage in Warwick in the occupation of Thomas Shotteswell, blacksmith. Also certain hereditaments in Oxhill with successive remainders in tail to testator's sons, James and Richard, and to his grandson, James Ludford, with remainder to the right heirs of the testator. Devise of hereditaments at Pillarton to the testator's sons, James and Richard, successively in tail, and to his grandson, James Ludford, in tail, remainder to the right heirs of the testator. Devise of a messuage in Jury Street, Warwick, in occupation of Humphrey Jukes and six yard land in Oxhill, together with the reversion of the hereditaments in Oxhill to the testator's sons, James and Richard, and to testator's grandson, John Ludford, successively in tail, remainder to the right heirs of the testator. Such hereditaments in Pillarton and Oxhill being subject to certain annuities. Bequest of leasehold property in Oxhill to testator's son James and of other leasehold property in Honiley and Bewsall to his wife for life with remainder to his son James. Bequests to testator's wife and son James of specified articles of plate. To testator's daughter Mary Rainsford £100 and a silver `Kann'. To testator's daughter Katherine Ludford certain silver plate and to testator's grandchild Jane Ludford £20 and plate. To testator's grandchildren John, James and Katherine Ludford £10 each and to the said Katherine testator's best silver Kann. To testator's grandchildren Martha, Mary (then wife of Thomas Nicholls) Anne, and Dorothy Rainsford of Warwick (£30 each). To testator's grandchildren Elizabeth and Judith Rainsford (£10 each). To testator's grandchild Jane Rainsford £40. To testator's grandchild James Rainsford £150. To testator's grandchild Merriell Coxe £200. To his grandchildren Elizabeth and Anne Heath (£10 each). To his son Richard £200. To all testator's grandchildren 10 shillings each to buy a Bible and to his sons in law John Ludford and Robert Heath £10 each to buy plate. To Thomas Corbyn and to Mr. John Dakins (testator's brother) to Robert Holte and Edward Holte (nephews of testator) to brother in law Edward Holte and Sister Jane Holte Gilbert Fitch, Richard Vennour, Henry Butler, Thomas Dugard £2 to buy rings.
