Inquisition post Mortem held 4 October 14 James I [1616] on the death of William Savage esq.. The Jurors swear that William died seised of the Manor of Elmley alias Elmley Castle with its Park and Warren and divers messuages etc. in the tenure of John Spragge, Richard Cooper, Robert Wheeler, John Buggin, Thomas Pigeon, Robert Smythe, Thomas Sounders and others, which Francis, his father held in fee, and so seised made his Will on 17 August 4 and 5 Philip and Mary [1557] and devised to Anne, his wife the site of the Manor and watermill, the demesne lands and lands of the customary tenants for her life, and after to his son, William. the Jurors further say that Queen Elizabeth was seised of the Chantry called the College of Elmley and on the 22 March in her sixth year [1564] granted it to Anthony Daston and Anne, his wife for their lives and afterwards to William. By an Indenture dated 6 May 30 Elizabeth [1588] Anne, relict of Francis Savage, demised it to Richard Daston esq. and Thomas savage of Nobury, gent., which Thomas died at Nobury on 30 Octonber 1 James I [1603]. The Jurors say that William with John Knottisford was seised of the site of the priory of Greate Malverne and tenements there, and of Nethercot Grange. John, son of William is heir and aged 37.
