Winter's "Plan of Stratford on Avon" - reproduction

Description

An annotated 'Plan of Stratford on Avon', this being a reproduction of a printed copy of the plan surveyed by Samuel Winter. This is not dated.

The plan includes a numbered key to buildings and sites judged to be of interest. A compass rose (direction symbol) and scale bar are displayed, the scale being given in Gunter's Chains [1 chain equals 66 feet or 20.1 metres]

This copy is annotated, location 18 'House where Shakespeare was born' being circled. Poors Close is marked with 'X P.M. Birthplace'. It is not known who made these annotations.

The reverse of the plan is marked in pencil 'Winter's Plan' 1978, this is believed to have been written by the depositor.

This reproduction shows the same plan as at ER1/48/2 (item 25 on p.22 of the folio ER1/48). However, this copy is printed on a different type and size of paper. Differences in the wear pattern on field detailing of each copy suggests that this reproduction may be taken from a different copy of the Winter plan.
