Robert Harvey of Stratford-upon-Avon, architect

Description

Plans and files from the Stratford-upon-Avon office of the Birmingham-based architectural practice of Yorke, Harper and Harvey. The Stratford office was located at Central Chambers, Wood Street, and from the early 1950s was managed by Robert (Bob) Harvey. His regular clients included the Shakespeare Memorial (later the Royal Shakespeare) Theatre, Flower's Brewery and King Edward VI School, Stratford-upon-Avon. But his reputation rests on his designs for private houses, in particular thirty dwellings, mainly in Warwickshire, which are the subject of an article by Louise Campbell in Twentieth-Century Architecture, no. 4, 2000. Many other plans relate to properties in Warwickshire but also included are commissions from . The collection is arranged in the chronological order of the commissions (DR1179/1). An index, arranged mainly by client's name, was also supplied with the collection (DR1179/2), an annotated copy of which, giving current references, will be held alongside the hard copy of the detailed list.
