Lease and Counterpart from Thomas Phillipps of Middle Hill in the Parish of Broadway, esquire, Lord of the Manor of Buckland and Laverton to Richard Collett the younger of Buckland, blacksmith, of a messuage sometime built on a piece of the ground near the Pound with a garden thereto adjoining (about half a quarter of an acre) in the Manor and Parish of Buckland also a cottage and blacksmith's shop adjoining the last mentioned premises and newly erected by the said Richard Collett on other part of the said waste ground, together with another parcel of the said waste ground lying by the side of the Public Road which adjoins the before mentioned premises leading from Great Buckland to Little Buckland and adjoining to Lammas Meadow containing in length 170 ft. and of an average width of 23ft. then in the occupation of Richard Collett, excepting to the Landlord mines, quarries and timber, for the term of the natural lives of Joseph Stanley (aged 9 years), George Stanley (aged 6 years) (two of the sons of Job Stanley of Broadway, wheelwright and Sarah his wife) and Richard White aged 2 years (one of the sons of Stephen White of Broadway, slatter, plasterer and maltster by Mary, his wife late Mary Rastall, spinster) or any of them at a yearly rent of 2/6, the payment of 2/6 upon the dropping of any of the said lives as a heriot and Suit of Court. The consideration for the granting of that Lease being the surrender of a former Lease to the landlord and the payment of £36-15-0. Signed: Thomas Phillipps and Richard Collett. Witnesses: J. H.
