Marriage Settlement prenuptial: Clopton

Description

Indenture of Covenant between William Clopton of Clopton, esquire of one part and John Clopton of Sledwicke, Co. Durham, esquire of the other part whereby William Clopton and John Clopton covenanted that Anne, daughter of the said William and William, son of John Clopton should marry before the Feast of St. Matthew the Apostle 1589 provided that the said Anne and William Clopton junior agreed and covenanted to payment of certain sums if the marriage did not take place and to settle other sums upon the birth of issue of the bodies of said William Clopton junior and Anne. Signed John Clopton. Armorial Seal of red wax Clopton and Lockfield arms quartered. Witnesses: Christopher Freeman and John Lyons.
