Snitterfield deeds: Phillips of Welcombe

Indentures of Lease and Release, the Release dated the 6th January 1760 between John Clarke of Wandsworth, Surrey, scarlet dyer and Henry Smith of Snitterfield, yeoman whereby a capital messuage situate in a place called the Old in Snitterfield (pulled down by Henry Smith the elder, party to this deed, who built on the site of it a barn and buildings called Steels), also several inclosed leasows called Luptons Leasow, Poole Leasowe, Plain Leasowe, Brick Kiln Close, Gilberts Leasowe, also two closes, a garden and orchard adjoining the capital messuage, also a toft or messe place where a cottage then lately stood, and also all other messuages, closes or lands whatsoever of him John Clarke in the Old, Snitterfield containing about 138 acres were conveyed by John Clarke to Henry Smith for £1450. Signed: John Clarke. Seal. Witnesses: Thomas Perkins and James Chambers. Lease dated 5th January 1760 by John Clarke to Henry Smith of the same property for one year.
