Description

Indentures of Lease and Release, the Release dated the 29th September 1771 between Henry Smith of Snitterfield gentleman of the 1st part, John Townsend of Snitterfield baker of the 2nd part and Benjamin Smart of Milverton mealman of the 3rd part whereby Henry Smith (Mortgagee) conveyed to John Townsend (Mortgagor) and Benjamin Smart all that messuage, orchard and close adjacent thereto situate at Snitterfield near unto the Church and also all those 85 acres, 2 roods and 11 perches of arable pasture and Meadow land lately inclosed and being in certain fields called Marcefield and Hungerhill Field and then into three parts divided with a barn and stable then lately erected upon part thereof, and also all those 12a-1r-15p of land of Coppice Wood meadow etc. then lately inclosed called The Bushes, all which said lands messuage etc. was then late in the occupation of John Waker deceased and then of Henry Townsend and the said John Townsend, also all that cottage garden etc. then in the tenure of Francis Blakemore in consideration of £1321-6-33/4 paid by Benjamin Smart to Henry Smith and £128-13-81/4 paid by Benjamin Smart to John Townsend. [Schedule of Deeds (thereafter in the Custody of Benjamin Smart) showing John Townsend's title to the above commencing with a Conveyance dated 10th June 1571 between Robert Jowet of Stratford-upon-Avon yeoman and John Waker of Snitterfield husbandman and ending with an Indenture of Assignment dated 16th March 1768 between Thomas Smith of Rowington gentleman of the 1st part, Henry Smith of Snitterfield gentleman of the 2nd part, Thomas Allibon of Snitterfield yeoman of the 3rd part and John Townsend of the 4th part whereby the residue of a term of 1000 years was assigned by Thomas Smith (at the direction of Henry Smith) to Thomas Allibon in trust to hold as security for a Mortgage and thereafter for John Townsend].
