From Lily to (sister Eliza). She describes the rough crossing and the other passengers, three of whom were Germans and the others Americans. One of them was very kind to Percy as he had a son of the same name and age, but discovered from the newspaper that he had died. They visited his wife and daughters at his home. She describes the enormous hotel and the dress and habits of the other guests.. Describes the narrow streets of New York with bills, papers, etc placaded about, looking untidy. Describes the 'cars' as very large omnibuses on iron rails, like trains, drawn by two horses. Describes Central Park as too young a park without a plant worthy of the name of tree.. They went to Barnum's Museum. It is very cold and people were skating. It is also very cold on board the steamers and time passes slowly.
