Hodgson of Clopton House: Correspondence and diary notes

Description

From Arthur Hodgson, Panama, to Frank Hodgson. Does not have much to say. Wishes Frank a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. He is sure that he will be happy at Ablington with Mr Wilson and will eat his Christmas dishes there. This letter should reach him on 17th January when they ought to have left Opara, an island in the Pacific where they coal up. Hoping to leave Panama on the 24th.. They had their last Christmas at Eastwood Lodge and the two previous in Rome. He supposes Frank will have a few days hunting and will return to Cambridge about January 24th. They have heard from Edward and from his Captain. They had a very uncomfortable passage from New York. The table was bad and the passengers a very mixed lot.. He will write from New Zealand where he will be meeting Lord and Lady Bowen. Lord Bowen will be relieving Sir George Grey. They will be glad to see Corrie Hewitt who may bring letters from Annie. He has left his spectacles at No.104 Park street and it is a great loss to him. Asks that Frank write a great long letter to let him know how he is getting on at Cambridge.
