Hodgson of Clopton House: Correspondence and diary notes

Description

From Eliza Hodgson, Montpellier, Brisbane, to Frank Hodgson She has been very busy with the move from Sydney to Brisbane. A delightful passage from Sydney. They have only Charlotte and Emily with them. They also have a cook, a parlour and house maid, a coachman and a carriage with a pair of horses.. She thinks that they will be able to make themselves happy there for six months. It is cool at night but very hot during the day. Lilly and Percy are at school in Sydney. She has asked Miss Hall to push Percy more. She hopes that Frank will take lessons in elocution before he takes orders. Young Charley Mort has arrived and is 'such an extraordinary specimen of humanity'. She says that his whole family are very upset by the death of their sister who left 8 children. They have had Mary Spencer staying with them, whose sister, Eliza has made a very good match. Emma Isaacs is soon to be married. Her Father continues to look deplorably ill. She does not think much of the two sons, Frank and Willy and is grateful that Frank was educated away from there as the colonial boys are so predjudiced and narrow minded. This letter is incomplete..
