From Eliza Hodgson (Lilly), Clopton to Frank Hodgson, Rome. She is glad that he is enjoying Rome. She has been to nine balls and enjoyed the Batchelors' Ball the most. She wore a Grecian dress which everyone admired. They have heard from Edward in Rio. They began Lent by dining and staying at Eatington. The Clintons were staying there also, and Sir Charles Mordaunt. They went to Mr Hawkes's meet and had good cherry brandy. On Tuesday she performed at a a Stratford concert, Annie sang and James played his clarinet. She played the piano. Uncle Henry arrived with his groom and valet on Wednesday. Emily and Chat' (Charlotte) entertained him until they met at the meet on Thursday. Emily and Charlotte are going to visit Aunt Charlotte for a fortnight. Annie and James will remain with them until the end of March. Edward Hewitt returns to India and is unhappy about it. She rode Polly to Red Hill and describes the hunting. She is starting Sunday School again. Mr Gepp, the new curate is a good looking man. Nellie Bloxham is going to marry Captain Coddington. She speaks of the murder of Lord May. She encolses the bill which have come for him since he left.
