Description

Copy of the will, 13 December 1834 of Thomas Sheldon of Burmington Gent whereby he bequeathed; to his son William Sheldon £500, to his daughter Mary Sarah Sheldon £1,000, to his daughter Elizabeth Sheldon £1,000 and to his daughter Catherine Sheldon £1,000. And to the Testator devised; to his son Thomas Izod Sheldon his water mill and land in Burmington, to his son Jonathan Sheldon other messuages and land in Burmington, to his son Joseph other messuages and land in Burmington and Shipston upon Stour, to his wife Mary a new erected house in Burmington with a close called the paddocks for her life with remainder to his daughters Mary, Sarah, Elizabeth and Catherine as tenants in common and Testator bequeathed to his wife Mary the household goods, plate, linen, china in his house at the time of his death and the residue of his seal and personal Estate to his said son William Sheldon and Joseph Slatter of Ilmington. Former (when he appointed his Executors) upon trust to sell and discharge all his debts legacies and thereafter to pay the interest and profits thereof to his wife for life during widowhood and in the event of his said wife re marrying to divide the same between his said sons and daughters in equal shares, but in case no such marriage should take place then in trust after the death of his said wife to such child or children as she should by deed or will appoint an in default of such appointment to the said children in equal shares. Witnesses Edward Banister Solicitor, Shipston on Stour, John Bellamy Solicitor, Shipston on Stour and Edward Charles Bannister Clerk to Mr. Bannister Codicil dated the 1st January 1837 Sheldon in the above Will and the death of the said Joseph, the Testator thereby devised the said hereditaments to his said wife Mary absolutely Witnesses S. Bishop, Stroud, Elizabeth Corbett, Stratford, Edward Bannister Solicitor, Shipston on Stour. Proved by both executors the 22nd May 1837 Sworn under £16,000 Testator died the 14th January. 1837
