Description

Indentures of Lease and Release the Release dated the 11th January 1798 whereby William Southam of Stratford-upon-Avon Perukemaker and Ann his wife conveyed to George Jellicoe the Elder of Little Chatwell Staffs. Gent four cottages with appurtenances in Henley Street adjoining to the White Lion Inn in the occupation of John Warrilow, John Davis, Widow Sumner and William Privy purchased by Wm. Southam of John Payton and his trustees, see No58 and 64, which cottages were purchased in 1771 by John Payton decd. Father of the said John Payton from the mortgagee of Thomas Hart for £138 paid by George Jellicoe. Covenant by William Southam and Ann his wife to levy a fine of the premises to Thomas Hart of Stratford-upon-Avon Gent to ensure to the use of the said George Jellicoe and his heirs forever. Signed Wm. Southam, Ann Southam and Thos Hart. Seals of red wax impression of a swan's head. Witnessed W. Penn and John Lane. Lease dated the 10th January 1798 by Wm. Southam to George Jellicoe of same premises for one year. Signed and Sealed by Wm. Southam as before Witnesses as before.
