Charles Vere Ferrars Townshend (1785-1853) was the second son of George, 2nd. marquess Townshend who inherited from his mother the barony of Ferrers of Chartley. On the death of Charles' brother George, 3rd. marquess Townshend without issue, the marquessate passed to a cousin, and the barony of Ferrers remained in abeyance among the descendants of his sisters, one of whom, Harriet Anne married Edward Ferrers of Baddesley Clinton in 1813 see Burke's Peerage 1929. p. 2306b.
