Settlement made between Henry Ferrers of Baddesley Clinton esq. and Joan Bradshaughe widow of Henry Bradshaughe Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer deceased, previous to the marriage of the said Henry Ferrers and Jane White youngest of the three daughters and co-heirs of Henry White son and heir of Sir Thomas White of South Warborough [Warnborough], Southampton knt., the said marriage to take place before the feast of All Saints next coming [1 November], leading the uses of a fine to be levied upon the manor of Baddesley Clinton and the advowson of the church together with lands in Elmedon, Solyhull, Bewsale, Hatton, Honiley, Warwick and Claredon alias Claverdon, then in the tenure of Andrew Ugnell and Bridget his wife, mother of the said Henry, whereby the said property was to be seised to the use of the said Henry and his heirs during the life of the said Bridget, and upon her death, to the use of the said Henry and Jane and the rightful heirs of the said Henry. The said parties agreed that other lands belonging to the said Henry in Baddesley, Solyhull and Knoll purchased from Richard Andrewes, Margery his wife and Edward Ferrers, a meadow and pasture called Spert meadow and Spert pasture in Cuddington, co. Bucks, and a rent charge of £20 from manors and lands of Michael Fyndern in Fyndern [Findern], Repton, Stonson [Stanton] and Derbie, co. Derby were to be held after the said marriage to the use of the said Henry and Jane for their lives and then to the rightful heirs of the said Henry. The said parties agreed that copyhold lands of the annual value of £80 6s. 8d. held by the said Henry of the manor of Balsall were to be surrendered and held to the use of the said Henry and Jane for their lives. The said parties also agreed that a capital messuage in Halden [High Halden] with park and lands in Halden and Betersden [Bethersden] in Kent held by the said Henry under two leases amounting to a term of 117 years were to be conveyed by the said Henry to persons named by the said Joan to be held to the use of the said Jane for her life, excepting one lease of 21 years made by the said Henry to George Carter for the annual rent of £40. 28 September 24 Elizabeth [1582].
