Description

Probate copy of the will of Edward Ferrers of Badesley Clinton esq. whereby he devised to his friends Peter Holford of Wootton Hall esq., Robert Willoughby of Aspley [Aspley Hall], co. Nottingham esq. and Francis Chumley of Bansby [?Barnby], in Yorkshire esq. a messuage and lands in the occupation of James Perks for the yearly rent of £120 and lands called Haywood, Sides coppice, Clay Pitts coppice, Gilberts coppice and Rowington coppice all in Badesley Clinton. To hold the same for 1,000 years after the death of the said Edward to pay the funeral expenses, debts and legacies left by the said Edward, upon which the said term was to cease and the said messuage and lands were to be held by Edward son and heir of the testator and his heirs for ever together with all jewels, plate, books, household goods and furniture. The said trustees were to be responsible for the education of all the children of the testator during their minority, each of whom, except the said Edward his son and heir, were to receive £625 upon reaching the age of 21 years in addition to any sums specified in the marriage settlement of the said Edward Ferrers. To his wife £10 was to be paid for mourning clothes, £50 to Sarah Grafton daughter of John Grafton and £5 to Joseph Tandy servant of the said testator, which sums were to be paid within one year of his death. To each of the three said trustees 2 guineas was given for rings, and £5 was to be distributed by them to the poor of Badesley Clinton. The residue of his estate was left to the said Edward his son and heir. The said trustees were appointed executors of the said will. 12 February 1793. Signed by Edward Ferrers.
