Description

Gift from Joan de Baddesl' to Peter Primerole of Clopton' for his homage and service, of land with appurtenances in Baddesl' which the said Joan received from James de Byseg' and also land in Olestorph [Ullesthorpe, co. Leicester] which the said Joan also received from James de Byseg'. The said Peter to hold the same freely, rendering annually one pair of gloves worth 1/2 d. or 1/2 d. at Easter to the said Joan, and also one pair of gloves worth 1/2 d. or 1/2 d. to the heirs of the said James de Byseg' at Easter for the land in Baddesl'. The said Peter also to pay 1d. at the feast of St. Peter ad vincula in lieu of all services and suit of court, and one pair of gloves worth 1/2 d. or 1/2 d., and 2d. and no more in lieu of heriot and relief. Also 1d. at Easter to the heirs of James de Byseg' for the land in Olestorph in lieu of all services and suit of court, and 2d. and no more for heriot, relief and wardship as often as they are due. Warranty clause against men and women. Sealing clause. Witnesses: Sir Alan Lassuche, Sir William Lassuche, Sir Ven' [? for Eudone], Sir William de Oddyngesel', James son of Thurstan de Byseg', William de Neuham, Adam Leded, William de Fren' and others. Undated: c. 1250. Seal on tag, painted oval of green wax. 1 1/2in x 1in. An eagle displayed. S'IOHE DE BADESLEIE. Endorsed: [In a 16th century hand] De terris quondam Bysyg' [53/15]
