Lease: Bridgetown

Description

Lease dated 9 January 1679/80 (Old style) [1680] from the Mayor, Aldermen and Burgesses of Stratford-upon-Avon to Michael Johnson of Stratford-upon-Avon, mercer, of an arable meadow in the precincts of Bridgtowne, in the occupation of the said Michael, for 21 years for £100 in hand a yearly rent of 20 shillings and a couple of capons to the Mayor on 1 January. Fragment of Corporation seal. Ensorsed with an assignment of the same by Mary Johnson, widow and executrix of Michael Johnson to Sir John Clopton for £80; dated 28 November 1684. Witnesses: Thomas Ainge and Richard Beddell.
