Petition of the Bailiff and Burgesses of Stratford to the Queen

Description

Praying that on account of the decay of the town by two recent very grievous fires, which consumed two hundred dwelling-houses and household goods to the amount of 12,000£, the subsidy and tax granted by the last parliament may be remitted on their part, and that their charter and franchises may be re-formed and enlarged, with council order inscribed thereon granting the petition, dated from the Court at Whitehall, 17 Dec. 1598. Upon the back are some notes of Benjamin Haynes, who was chamberlain in the year 1726, relative to the death of the vicar in that year, and other persons subsequently, with other notes, one of which records his mayoralty
