Description

Lease from John Brom' of Baddesley to Thomas Smyth of Rowynton' and Alice his wife of a grove in Baddesley which formerly consisted of two crofts and part of a croft called Bromescroft, Pappeleycroft and part of Lediscroft lying between Haywode and the highway leading from Baddesley towards Warrewyk'. Also two other crofts in Rowynton' on the other side of the said road, one called La Lye and the other called Haxstede. The said Thomas and Alice to hold the said grove for one half year from the feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Mary last past until the feast of St. Michael next coming, with the right to cut wood undergrowthin the same, rendering 6 1/2 d. rent. The said Thomas and Alice to hold the two crofts in Rowynton for the term of their lives, with reversion to the said John, rendering annuall 1d. rent during the life of the said Thomas, or after his death 4d. during the life of the said Alice. The said Thomas and Alice were also to render due and customary service to the chief Lords of the fee, with the condition that if the said Thomas or Alice damaged the said grove, the said John had the right to re-enter the same, and if any of the said rents were unpaid the said John had the right of distraint.
