Description

Conveyance by lease and release from Stephen, Earl of Ilchester, and Charlotte Digby of St. George, Hanover Square, co. Middx., widow, with the consent of Newsham Peers of Alveston, esq. (who had previously contracted to purchase the estate) to Robert Earl of Catherlough, of the manor and manorhouse of Chadshunt and houses and lands in Chadshunt and Gaydon 13 and 14 March (Deeds are recited explaining how the estate, mortgaged by James Newsham Craggs to Edward Bishop of Durham in 1747 and in 1752 to Charlotte Digby, was sold by Order in Chancery in 1764 to Stephen Earl of Ilchester) With counterpart. Enclosed: - copy will of James Newsham Craggs, dictated to the Royal Notary of St. Quentin, France, 17 October 1769, bequeathing all his estate to Mary Ann Middleton (widow of John Healey) `she having also resided in France many years and for some months past in this city with me.' - contract for purchase between the Earl of Catherlough and Newsham Peers, 10 January 1772.
