Description

Lease from Adam Botener, John Percy, John de Toftes, John Hagh', John Styward', John Botenere, William Wolff', John Knyght', Adam de Keresleye, Richard de Dodenhale, John de Pounfret, Rowland Damet and Simon de Langham of Coventre to Gilbert le Wryght' of Coventre of a messuage and two cottages in Coventre which they hold in le Frerelane between the tenement which John de Dranfeld' holds and the tenement of Alice de Baxterleye; to hold the same for life of the said Gilbert rendering annually for the first 60 years next following 24 shillings of silver (4 terms) and thereafter, if the said Gilbert should live so long, the sum of 100 shillings of silver annually, and should the said Gilbert die within the said 60 years, then the said premises to remain to his heirs for the remainder of the said term; and the said Gilbert to repair the said premises `de novo' within 4 years and to maintain them thereafter at his own cost. Witnesses: John Swyneshed', mayor of Coventre, John Stowe and Richard Teynton', bailiffs of the same, John Papenham, Richard Luff', Henry de Keel, John Clyfford' and others. Dated at Coventre, Thursday in the feast of St. Michael the Archangel, 3 Richard II. Tag i is almost eaten away. Tags ii and iii are split to carry four circular brown seals apiece. i) The letters H R R on a shield. ii) A shield indecipherable. iii, iv, vii, viii) merchants' marks. v, vi) missing.
