Description

Charles S. Smith, Warwick to Hon. Mrs. [Julia Judith] Leigh, Dover: Progress of work at Abbey; re-use of old stones for cellar walls and porch. Carpenters working on floor boards for Saloon, pillars are now "prostrate on the floor". Asks for confirmation of decoration for remaining pillars. Willcox the carver cannot improve on stone chimney pieces which are "the production of a very superior Artist". Refers to variety of chimnies on roof. Enquires after Chandos' health. With cover to same, franked "Dormer".
