Description

Will of John Griffin of Stoneley, yeoman, 2 Feb: 43 Elizabeth (1600-1601) He leaves £4 to his friends to accompany his body to burial; and £60 to the overseers of the poor of Stoneleigh and providing for an annual sermon in the church there. Other legacies to the poor of Ashoe and Starton Babwell and Bagginton and Kenilworth. Legacies to godsons John Wilde, Thomas Harper, Margerie Sootherne Margaret Sherman, Margerie Weston, Prudence Smythe, Robert Baker, Wit: Henry Bellingham, James Hoo, Robert Baker. Proved at Coventry 1 March 1602 Seal. Oval, Beneath a Renaissance tabernacle a figure of the Official Zachariah Babington. On the dorse a account of sums paid the poor in 1603.
