Cheeke, Russell Tipping families: Archer of Tanworth

Description

William Hill to Anderson Saunders. Copy of letter. Lady Dorchester has agreed not to oppose Sir Stephen [Fox], in case he should move the barons of the Exchequer to allow him the £3,000 now in the collectors' hands as part of his claimed £6,400, and also because it is in his power to bar her from a pension received in the right of Lady Catherine, her daughter by King James, now aged about 8. Sir Stephen will help her to receive the arrears of her grant before Lady Russell begins to receive hers, and Mr. Roberts says that her patent empowers her to make no payment of the reserved quitrents in Ireland until the arrears on her English annuity are paid off: 'if soe itt will bee extreame hard upon my Lady shee had better never have medled w'th her Grant'. It is hoped that Lady Russell may be enabled to receive a payment out of the aforementioned £3,000 by order of the court of Exchequer. Enclosed, a copy of the order of the lords of the Treasury made on Friday last ordering payment of the quitrent of £5,000 p.a.,upon which the Countess of Dorchester and Sir Stephen Fox made several claims, to be made according to the orders of the court of Exchequer issued or to be issued before the end of the Michaelmas term.
