Chamberlains' accounts: The account of John Taylor and John Shakespeare, chamberlains of the Stratford-upon-Avon Corporation for the year Michaelmas 1561 to Michaelmas 1562
Description
This account is for the year ending at Michaelmas, 1562, and is of great interest as being the earliest accounts of John Shakespeare as chamberlain known to exist. Amongst the entries are,--"receved of the new barbur for hys fredum, iij.s. iiij.d.--Receved of Amblet for hys chambur, ij.s. vj.d.--Payd to Haghe carpenter for hangyng the gret bell and makyng the whell, xx.d.--Payd for reparacyons of a shop behynd the shombulles, iij.s.--Payd to Hall for settyng a ston at the Chappell door, vj.d." On the reverse are two marks, which may be those of Shakespeare and Taylor
