Stratford-upon-Avon: Guild of the Holy Cross: Letters of Indulgence

Description

Letters of Indulgence for 40 days granted by Godfrey [Giffard] Bishop of Worcester to all of his Diocese who shall assist the Brethren of the Hospital of the Holy Cross at Stratford upon Aven. The grant recites that the Hospital was founded for the support of poor priests of the diocese ordained without certain titles and for other indigent persons, and directs that when the Brethren of the same fraternity shall come or send to collect Alms from the faithful their applications shall be favourably received Dated at Bredon on the 7th of the Ides of October, 1270, in the third year of the Bishop's consecration.
