Description

Lease from William Neille of Stichall, surgeon, to Richard Bette of the same, husbandman, Joan his wife, and Joan Bette their daughter, for 40 shillings, of a cottage, garden, two crofts and seven [acres] of arable land in the tenure of the said Richard in Stichall; to hold the same from Michaelmas last for a term of 20 years, rendering annually 8 shillings (2 terms) and a heriot when due, and 4 shillings on every occasion when the said William provides a man for war for Mr. Ferrers, his lord; and the said Richard to maintain the said property at his own expense, but the said William to provide the necessary timber growing on the said land. Dated the last day of May, 1 and 2 Philip and Mary Three tags, seals 2 and 3 lost. Seal 1; shield-shaped, red. A saltire. Endorsed: Rycharde Bet
