Description

Lease from Brother William, Prior of the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Mary of Coventr' and the convent of the same to John Clerk' of Styvechale, Mary his wife and John their eldest son, of a tenement and a virgate of land with appurtenances in the vill and fields of Styvechale, which said tenement is called Churchlond'; to hold the same for the lives of the said John, Mary and John, rendering annually to the said Prior and convent 8 shillings at the four usual terms in Coventr'; and the said John, Mary and John to pay heriot when due and to maintain the said property at their own expense, and to build new buildings if necessary; and the said property to revert to the said convent at the end of the said term. Dated at Coventr', Tuesday on the feast of the Conception of the Blessed Mary, 1366. 3 circular, red seals on a split tag: i) a paschal lamb. Legend: ECCE AGNUS DEI ii) on a shield, a tree with 3 branches iii) a lion couchant within a 6-foiled panel. Endorsed: de tenemento et virgata terre possess' prioratus vocato Churchlande [AG]
