Description

Grant from Katherine, Duchess of Norfolk, to the prior and convent of the Isle of Axholme, reciting a gift in frankalmoign, dated 10 December, 2 Henry V [1414] from John her husband, late Duke of Norfolk, by name John Earl Marshal and Nottingham, Marshal of England, Lord of Moubray, Segrave and Gower to Thomas de Selby, the prior of the House of the Visitation of the Blessed Mary in the Isle of Axholme and the convent of the same, of an annual rent of 20 marks from his manor of Eppeworth', payable to them at Easter and Michaelmas; now whereas there is an arrears of 80 pounds for the last 6 years up to Easter 11 Henry VI [1433], owing to the said convent from this rent, the said Katherine grants to the said prior and convent the custody of all the lands and tenements, rents, etc., which is in her hands by reason of the minority of William Eston', son and heir of John Eston', in the Isle of Axholme and which she had lately by the gift and feoffment of Henry Cardinal of England, Thomas bishop of Durham, Simon Felbrigge, knight, John de Preston', Richard Stevesacre and Robert Suthewell', feoffees of the late Duke; to hold to the said prior and convent until the said William comes of age, by way of complete discharge of the said arrears.
