Description

Counterpart of lease, indented, from Thomas Grevile, gent., master of the Gild of the Holy Cross etc., of Straford upon Aven, with the assent of William Phillipps, Adrian Quyny, Thomas Taylour, Richard Lord, Olifer Lyghttfoott, William Staffordshire, Hugh Raynoldes and Thomas Whateley, aldermen, and William Smyth alias Fynche and Richard Vnderhill, proctors of the said Gild, to Richard Smyth, `deyster', of a tenement with a little garden adjoining, and a small close late in the tenure of Adrian Quyny in Straford in le Churche Strete between a small close of the Warden of the collegiate church of Straford `in lee Eeste', and Evysham lane `in lee West', and reaching in length from the said street to the land or garden of the said Warden `in lee Sowuth', for 51 years at an annual rent of 15 shillings, the said Richard to build a new barn in the close, 42 feet long, within the space of 7 years. With a bond of obligation in £5 for the performance of covenants Dated in the Gildhall, 18 March, 19 Hen.VIII Endorsed in a later hand: `A tenement in Churche strete nowe Wm Smyth hubbodisser' [haberdasher] Seal of red wax, circular.
