Abstract relating to the lease dated [ ] August, 3 Edward VI [1549] for 99 years from John, late Duke of Northumberland, and the confirmation obtained by his son, Robert, Earl of Leicester, from the Queen in the form of letters patent dated 29 March, 10 Elizabeth [1568: see no. DR10/464]being a grant to the Mayor, Bailiffs and Commonalty of the city of Coventr' for 99 years of the manor and park of Chelsmore to be used for the pasture of eighty cows and heifers and twenty geldings by the poor men of the city and suburbs of Coventr' paying a penny each week for every cow and heifer and 2 pence for each gelding.
