Description

Draft answer of John Gregory, gent., to the bill of complaint of John Lamott, Samuel Cranmer and George Greenewood, alleging that he is lawfully seised of the manor house of Stichall; that by virtue of this he does not owe any part of £82. 10s. 0d. mentioned in the bill of complaint as rent due to the bishop of Coventry, nor has any such rent ever been payable; that he owes nothing for his tenure of the said premises except the service which the dwellers of Stichall owe to the king at the court of Chilsemore; that he does not know whether any other land-holder in Stichall owes part of the claimed rent; and the denies that he has endeavoured to lay the whole of the said rent on the said complainants as they allege.
