Correspondence - Gregory Family

Description

Letter from John Smith to Arthur Gregory, assuring him that he will ransack his Lord's study and search at Berkly Castle for the deeds mentioned by Arthur in his letter, and also complaining of an unfair judgment awarded against him at the Coventry assizes in favour of the citizens of Coventry. He also relates how, during the case, Arthur's enemy John Merston `said openly that you had corrupted the Prior's booke which nowe remayneth in the Exchequer', and advises Arthur to bring an action for slander against Merston, which he is sure will be successful. Signed: Jo. Sm. Note by Arthur Gregory of those present when John Merston made his allegation.
