Correspondence - Gregory Family

Description

Letter, dated at Coventry, from W. Dadley to Arthur Gregory, informing him that, upon searching `at the rolls' he has found the inquisition referred to by Dugdale proving that Arthur's ancestor, Thomas, died seised of the manor of Stivichall in 16 Elizabeth. Also, whilst searching at the Herald's Office on behalf of Mrs. Wigley, he has come across an ancient pedigree of the Gregory family, wherein every one of Arthur's ancestors is described as lord of Stivichall, and he believes that if Arthur now searches amongst his title deeds he will find a grant of the manor from the crown. If such evidence is forthcoming then Stivichall cannot be regarded as part of the manor of Chilesmore, and for the purposes of the Enclosure Act the Prince of Wales need only be acknowledged as the lord paramount, and not as the lord of Stivichall. Envelope, with red seal applied, addressed to Arthur Gregory, esq., Warwick.
