Abstract of title to a messuage and garden in Rother Market purchased by John Hamp of John Rowden Westbury, with the following recitals: i) 25 June 1707: conveyance from Thomas Higgins of Birmingham, currier, and Elizabeth his wife, to Ann Canning of Stratford-upon-Avon, spinster, for £90, of two messuages in Rother Market, late in the tenure of Richard Ward and Leonard Timbrell, since of Edward Saunders and Elizabeth Jakeman or Leonard Timbrell, and then of Thomas Higgins ii) 2 September 1707: conveyance from Ann Canning to Joseph Hunt of Stratford-upon-Avon, gentleman, for £90, of the premises described in DR306/25/i iii) 17 and 18 November 1749: conveyance from Joseph Hunt of Shipston-on-Stour, gentleman (son and heir of Joseph Hunt, late of Shipston-on-Stour, gentleman, himself the son and heir of Joseph Hunt, late of Stratford-upon-Avon, gentleman) to Giles Smith of Admington, gentleman, for £84, of three messuages (formerly two) in Rother Street iv) 31 August 1761: will of Giles Smith bequeathing his estate to his son Giles Smith (proved 20 June 1763) v) 8 September 1766: will of Giles Smith the younger, bequeathing his messuages in Mickleton, Honeybourne and Stratford-upon-Avon, to his wife, Ann Smith (proved 2 July 1771) vi) 12 and 13 October 1798: conveyance from Ann Smith of Chipping Norton, co. Oxon., widow of Giles Smith, to John Rowden Westbury of Stratford-upon-Avon, schoolmaster, for £257 10s 0d, of three messuages in Rother Market in the respective tenures of John Hamp, Thomas Hobday and Daniel Watson, formerly part of the estate of Giles Smith and purchased by him of Joseph Hunt. [N.B. This property was purchased by John Hamp after making his will (DR306/24) and he made no provision for it after his death]
