Description

Letters Patent reciting that a fine had been levied in the Court of Queen's Bench at Westminster in Hilary Term 1584 before Sir Edmund Anderson, Kt. and others between Robert Moore, clerk, and Robert Granger, plaintiffs, and Edward Leighe, esq. and Anne his wife, defendants of the Manor of Newton with appurtenances and two messuages, one water mill, one windmill, 1000 acres of land, 100 acres of meadow, 500 acres of pasture, 10 acres of wood, 20 acres of furze and heath and 10/- rent with appurtenances in Newton, Buggyn and Holme for which fine the said Robert Moore and Robert Granger surrendered the said premises to the said Edward Leigh and Anne his wife and their heirs for ever as tenant in capite of the Lord of that fee which Manor and premises were held in capite of the Queen. And since no licence of alienation was first obtained before such assurance it was thereby witnessed that in consideration of £12 paid to the Queen's agent a pardon was granted for such fault and also the royal right of forfeiture of the hereditaments was waived and licence to take a conveyance from the said Robert Moore and Robert Granger given to the said Edward Leighe and Anne his wife.
