Description

Order of the Court of Wards and Liveries reciting an Inquisition post mortem before Edward Chamberlayne of Alexander Martyn formerly of Shawell, Leics., clerk, made in the reign of James I and enrolled in Chancery which witnessed that the said Alexander died the 25th December 1625 seised in demesne of the Manor of Newton, 3 messuages, 3 gardens, 42 acres of land, 5 acres of meadow, 16 acres of pasture, 1 acre of wood, 6 acres of furze and heath and view of frankpledge in Newton then in the separate occupations of Anne Martin and Henry Pratt and that William Martyn was the next heir of the said Alexander, being then of the age of 10 years, 11 months and 8 days and that the said hereditaments being held of the King in capite by the hundreth part of a Knight's fee and reciting also that since the said William had attained 21 years and all the profits of the aforesaid premises owed by the King from the time of attaining his majority to the 16th November last past in the Court of Wards and Liveries according to an act of Parliament were paid according as by a certificate of the Master and Officials of the said Court in the Chancery more fully appeared, it was witnessed that in consideration of 8 pence to the Hanaper paid as homage of the said William to the King to the feast of All Souls then next following the King accepted Fealty of the said William and gave back all the said premises to him.
